This session explores how worship shapes faith and belonging for young adults when it is rooted in place, story, and shared practice. Drawing from nearly a decade of leading a young adult worshiping community in Oak Cliff, this workshop examines how authentic worship can form disciples outside traditional church models while remaining deeply grounded in Christian tradition.
Participants will reflect on how worship functions as formation rather than performance and how congregations can cultivate spaces that invite participation, honesty, and spiritual depth. The session offers practical insights for leaders seeking to develop worshiping communities that respond faithfully to the cultural realities of young adults while nurturing lasting faith and connection.
Leigh Gettman-Allen is a worship leader, educator, and young adult ministry leader whose life and ministry are deeply rooted in Oak Cliff, Dallas. She attended school in Oak Cliff from preschool through college and has spent decades investing in the spiritual, cultural, and communal life of the neighborhood. Oak Cliff’s history of change, diversity, and renewal has profoundly shaped her approach to ministry, worship, and formation.
Leigh has served for nearly a decade leading The Branch, a young adult worshiping community connected to Tyler Street Church, where she and her husband Billy have walked alongside hundreds of young adults through worship, service, and shared life. Her ministry emphasizes worship as a formative practice grounded in place, presence, and relationship rather than programs alone. She has led and organized city-wide worship gatherings and represented Texas at national worship events, including Awaken the Dawn on the National Mall.
In addition to her congregational leadership, Leigh teaches communication and ministry courses at Dallas Baptist University and has served as a voice for racial reconciliation and community engagement across North Texas. She is a co-author of Modern Images of America: Oak Cliff and continues her theological education through Baylor University’s Truett Seminary. Leigh’s work reflects a long-term commitment to forming faithful communities where worship, justice, and belonging are lived realities.
