Useful, Clear, and Transparent: Missional Priorities as an Evangelistic Imperative

Post-Boomer generations are less and less likely to imagine church membership itself as valuable for spiritual flourishing — their own or the world’s. How can the church recover its own sense of purpose, the why of our fellowship, beyond our drive to survive? How can we communicate a Spirit-driven focus that deserves our attention, resources, and gifts, such that new generations of Jesus-followers will discover the beauty of a church that blesses the world God still loves?

Rev. Dr. Katie Hayes brings more than twenty years of pastoral experience and innovative ministry leadership to this master class. After serving in traditional small-church settings, she planted Galileo Church in 2013 in the Fort Worth area, where she continues to serve as Lead Evangelist. Galileo is a “next church” congregation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Galileo seeks and shelters spiritual refugees, especially LGBTQ+ and neurodiverse folx who have experienced “regular” church as exclusionary. She occasionally teaches courses on evangelism and entrepreneurial ministry at Brite Divinity School; and is the author of four books, including God Gets Everything God Wants (Eerdmans 2022) and Family of Origin, Family of Choice: Stories of Queer Christians (Eerdmans 2021).
